Asbury Learning Center"A Link to Success"Asbury Learning Center provides tutoring to students in grades K-4 needing extra help in reading and math. This program is nondenominational and is offered at no cost to families throughout our community. Students meet weekly with a qualified tutor for 35 minutes of instructional time and a 10 minute parent conference follows. The Read Naturally Fluency program is used to help students achieve grade level success in reading fluency and comprehension. Applications are available at local schools and the Asbury United Methodist Church office. You may contact the church office at 832-5369 for more information. We are pleased to introduce our tutors...Nancy Bailey This is Nancy's fifth year a tutor for the Asbury Learning Center. She is currently a 5th grade educator at the Middle School and has taught for over 10 years. She is a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Frequently Asked QuestionsHow can I get my child enrolled at the Asbury Learning Center?Fill out an application form and return it to the Asbury United Methodist Church office by the due date.My child is in the 5th grade. Can he/she receive help at the ALC? No. The ALC is for students in grades K - 4.Where do I get an application form? At your child's school or at the Asbury Church office.My child is already getting reading help at school. Does he/she still qualify for your program? Students in Title I are still eligible. Students in special education services that have an Individualized Education Plan with Reading/Language Arts or math goals are not eligible.When and where are the tutoring lessons? Tuesday afternoons in the Asbury Education Building. Students have 35 minutes of one-on-one tutoring instruction.Do I have to be involved in any way? Yes. Parents are required to have a 10 minute conference at the end of each tutoring session.How much does it cost? No cost.Who are the tutors? The tutors are educators in our community. They are teachers, substitute teachers, and student teachers. All are hired after careful screening.Do I have to belong to the Asbury United Methodist Church to have my child enrolled at the ALC? No. This program is open to all students in our community that meet our board established guidelines.Do you accept donations? Yes. We are a nonprofit organization.
