Rev. J. Curtis Goforth
About Curtis:
Curtis has served as our lead pastor since July of 2012. He is originally from Statesville, NC. His wife, Jennifer, works at our preschool and at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site as a Historical Interpreter. They have two girls, Cora (age 10) and Lylah (age 7), and they all love being a part of the Asbury Memorial family. Before coming to Asbury Memorial, Curtis served churches in Salisbury, NC (Mount Tabor UMC and Woodleaf UMC) and Badin, NC (Badin UMC and Richfield UMC). His first pastorate was in The Methodist Church of Great Britain where he served a circuit of ten churches in and around Manningtree, Essex (about an hour northeast of London).
Educational Background:
Berea College (2000)--B.A. in Philosophy and Religion with a double minor in Ancient Hebrew and Archaeology.
Harvard University (1998, 1999)--no degree, Archaeological Studies (class work and field work, including two archaeological digs in Ashkelon, Israel).
The University of Essex (2004-2005)--no degree, New Testament Studies
Duke University Divinity School (2004)--M.Div. (concentration in Liturgical Studies and Biblical Languages)

The Rev. Sallyanne McVay
About Sallyanne:
Sallyanne has served as our Minister to Children and Youth since 2010. She also works as the Programming Director at Givens Estates, the United Methodist Retirement Community in south Asheville. She and her husband, Jeff, have two daughters: Katelin (a student at Appalachian State University) and Corey (a high school student).

Mrs. Sherry Bates
About Sherry:
Sherry has been our Music Director since 2015. She and her husband, Randy Hundley, live in south Asheville. Sherry directs the Chancel Choir, the Handbell Choir, and coordinates with a number of guest musicians from the congregation and community that are regularly featured in our worship services. If you'd like to learn more about joining one of our choirs or providing special music during one of our services, please contact her and she can get you involved.

Mrs. Mandy Fisher
About Mandy:
Mandy has been holding down the fort in our church office since 2013. She is also employed with Biltmore in Asheville. She is married to Britt Fisher and they have one daughter, Wheeler, who is in sixth grade. Mandy is in charge of our communications, publications, and membership and financial records at Asbury Memorial.
